My suggestion was that he is already a member of the Shadow Warriors who was sent to the north on a mission of some kind. When Valithor and Casúr run into him, he returns to the South to fight the Xain army.

Name: Galudirithon (His friends call him Galu) Race: Elf Age: 30 Weapons: Bow and various enchanted arrows, Telescoping Halberd, daggers that are summoned from runes imbedded in his hands. Armor: Light Plate armor enchanted to be light, a blue/gray cloak to help him and his Orodrakus disappear into the sky. Mount: Orodrakus named alagos. Class: Wizard, Archer Description: Tall, but not for an elf, with long black hair. Normally wearing his armor, but it is often hard to see him as he blends in due to his cloak, which seems to shimmer and change colors when moved and blends in with the background when standing still. Background: Galu is the son of the Oruthalian Orodrakus wing. And accompanied him on a scouting mission, when they were attacked by dragons. In desperation Galu used a teleportation spell he had stored up before, but it went off and it teleported only him to the shadow warriors land. He was then found and brought up as a shadow warrior. He quickly became one of their best scouts/rangers and a capable commander. Because of his skill he was chosen to go lead a secret mission to the north of the world. This was a year ago and he hasn’t been seen since, until now when he was found by the other shadow knights in their travels north. He then joined with them, and that is where his story starts off.

I'm going to go post it and hopefully it is approved I'll wait untill atleast monday to start since I am gone all weekend.
