It seems cases are slowly falling? But I guess we've heard that before It seems to be, at least where I'm living. The university tells us cases are going down here, which is encouraging

That sounds somewhat convenient. I remember having all of my classes on two days of the week and all of the other days felt so free, besides the homework of course.

It would be more convenient if I didn't have my first one in person at 9am and the second one online at 1:30pm, but yes it's one of my better schedules. I go to the gym Tuesday and Thursday, which is nice

Though perhaps a little better than having one right after the other. That's a good way to spend those days. I should've gone to the gym more often.

I disagree, I tend to get some decent work done between 10:30 and 1:30... and sometimes during the 1:30 zoom... The only part I don't like is walking back and forth. I like things back to back just to get it out of the way, honestly. I can't decide if I like this gym better than the one at my undergrad. Does your employer have some sort of gym? I know a lot of (particularly engineering) companies do these days. I'm not sure what I'll do to work out after I graduate, if I live in an apartment I can't really set up my home gym.

Ah, I guess that's not too bad then, though I agree walking can be pretty annoying and sometimes takes up a good chunk of the time. Interesting. Having classes back-to-back isn't too bad, except on the days when you get back-to-back exams on all your classes. Then studying for them and getting through that test day can be exhausting. I see. My employer doesn't have a gym since we're not as big as other larger engineering companies. That makes sense. I suppose you could sign up for a local gym membership, though I'm not sure if they are worth it.

It takes closer to 15 to get to the gym, though. Thankfully I've never had back to back exams... not sure how I avoided that over the years. None of my courses this semester have exams, only machine learning has quizzes (supposedly). I hate interacting with the general populace. The school gym is bad enough

On the days I went to the gym, I didn't do much of the leg exercises since walking to and back from the gym was already exhausting. Wow, I guess you got pretty lucky. I once had back to back exams, and my classes were on opposite sides of the college, so I had to run from one to the other to make it on time. I wonder how machine learning quizzes go. Multiple choice, or some kind of programming? Lol, and especially with the pandemic, it's safer to avoid shared facilities.

I haven't been doing much weight on legs, instead I'm doing more cardio... never did that in undergrad. I did 5 miles in less than 15 minutes on the bike today, which I was happy about. They make us wear n95s at the gym, so I don't mind it too much. I think I always got sick from using the gym locker room in undergrad... it was poorly ventilated. I refuse to go near it here Well, last semester the course was remote, so we'd have a couple theoretical questions like "what happens to the SVM if you change some data points," and primarily some math that you could do fairly easily. This semester it's in person and there are only 7 of us in the course so on Wednesday he decided to drop the quizzes to save himself the bother of writing and giving them. He said he figures we all want to learn the material and don't have to be quizzed

That's pretty cool, I should consider riding a bike more often. I see. That gym locker sounds poorly sanitized. Probably still has the stenches of people since the facilities first opened. Very interesting. Sounds like it was a fairly straightforward class. That's pretty lucky to be in a course with so few students. You get more time with the professor when you need help understanding the material. Before the pandemic all of my engineering courses were packed until people sat on the floor of the lecture halls, so finding time for help was difficult.

I'm trying to prioritize abs / core and upgrade the visibility from 6 pack to 8 pack. It's tough work. I did 5 miles on the bike in an even shorter time today, so I was happy about that. They had standing room only courses? Sounds like your university had an overenrollment problem. Can't say I've ever really had much of a one on one conversation with this professor, but yes, you're right it's good that the option is there. Do you have experience with Linux?

That sounds tough and tiring. Nice. I guess that's a new record. Well, there's a auditorium for classes of 100-300 students, and it got pretty full. We did have an overenrollment problem. The university wanted to keep growing, but they also didn't have the class infrastructure to support it. I still wonder to this day how I managed to survive that. Yep. Getting to know your professor in their office hours helps quite a bit, especially when it comes to finding opportunities. I have a little experience with Linux from working with Raspberry Pi's, though I'm not entirely familiar with Linux.

Not sure how happy about that I am. That's perplexing. Meanwhile my undergrad opened a new college and made new dorms so they could enroll more students, then they admitted so many that their acceptance rate rose like 25% We found that a little embarrassing, especially since it was ~25% when we enrolled. Thankfully when one is a PhD student, most faculty are more willing to talk to you. I brought it up because the python library my advisor is working with for some heavy computation (think beefed up pytorch) apparently only works on Linux... he seemed shocked that I didn't use Linux, I was like dude But the university might give me my own Linux machine for doing this stuff in my office, which is kind of cool.
