Lord Urbien sighs. "Perhaps. I will see if someone can be sent to begin negotiations while you are at Lord Amvion's summit."
"Good." Lady Valerie pauses, staring wistfully at the wall. "If she refuses, I suppose we will have no choice but to accept Lord Cyril's proposal."
Lord Urbien nods. "I see little recourse. But that can be dealt with in time. You should prepare for your journey now." He ushers her to the door. "We will see you off in the morning. I will make sure you are well accommodated."
OOC: I'm hoping to get the summit started tomorrow.

"Indeed." Lady Valerie rises. "Until tomorrow, Lord Urbien." She leaves the room and returns to her quarters, where she makes the final preparations for her departure.

OOC. OK.
OOC: Well, I didn't do that, but I will today.
"Until tomorrow."
In the morning, Valerie gathers the items she needs for the journey and heads to the castle gate. She (presumably along with any servants she is bringing) is met there by the four members of her personal guard who remain at the castle -- Cadell, Emrys, Gwynedd, and Captain Madoc -- and three others who introduce themselves as Haul, Nest, and Traherne. Sortly after, Urbien joins them. They exchange a few pleasantries and Urbien asks Valerie to provide as much information as she can about Lord Amvion's intentions. And then they are off to the southeast and the scattered remains of the once-mighty castle that stood at the point where the borders of the three kingdoms now touch.
OOC: I can provide you with more information about your guards in a future post if you like. I just didn't want to put too much into this one.

Valerie brings with her one of her maids and two travelling bags. As they depart, her gaze lingers on the castle behind them as she ponders the possible events of the next few days.

OOC: Thanks, that'd be great.
OOC: Okay, I'll do that now while we wait for other plot lines to catch up.
By this time, Valerie has become familiar with her guards to the extent that she can without socializing with them. Madoc is a wide man of average height with a flattened, lopsided face and a friendliness and goodness that almost seems to radiate from his being. Gwynedd is taller than most of the men, with short, fiery red hair; she is rowdy at times (though never around Valierie) but stoic when on duty. Cadell is the shortest in the group, with a thick build; often putting on a pensive air, he is never as witty as he tries to be. Emrys is the tallest and seems to be made almost entirely of rectangles, his most prevalent personality trait being his enjoyment of hitting things. Valerie has not met the new recruits, so the only information she has is of their appearances. Haul is a rotund man with a mop of blonde hair and an almost permanent scowl. Nest is a then woman, slight woman tangled dark hair and eyes that never quite point in the same direction. Traherne is almost as tall as Emrys, lantern-jawed and shaved bald.

OOC: Shamrock I'm going to jump ahead into the meeting, since the other plot lines have made it past that. Also, I just remembered Lord Amvion was your character, so you're welcome to take control of him back if you want to.
IC: From the start, Lord Amvion of the Dragon Knights was angry at the attendance, as neither the Lion Knights nor the Shadow Warriors had sent their rulers. The only representative from the Shadow Warriors was Alpida, a gray-skinned woman with an eyepatch and an enormous scimitar. Amvion's mood was only worsened by the frequent whispers of his advisor, a young soldier named Captain Jeorge.
Amvion began by having the wizard Gidie read from a copy of the Treaty of Kasp. He then laid out his grievances with the document, including its limitations on the Southern Kingdoms, its clear antiquity, and the abject failure of the old Kaspik Wardens to carry out their expected tasks, and proposed it be overturned by unanimous agreement of the three kingdoms.
Immediately, Alpida rejected the idea. "The Shadow Kingdom will not support this proposal. We have no interest in the Great Forest, and our leader, the mighty Black Knight, respects the wise leaders of antiquity. This document was written for good reason."
Before Amvion could utter what would no doubt be an enraged reply, Gidie stepped forward. "Might I suggest a counterproposal? In the treaty, Section II, Article B8 outlines the procedure for just such a situation: 'b) If the Kaspik wardens entirely fail to perform their duties . . . the southern kingdoms . . . should disband the organization and rebuild it in the same way outlined above.' The answer is clear; we must find new Kaspik Wardens. In fact, I already have. Enter, please."
From the exterior hallway, Harfor, leader of the Forest Band entered, flanked by a handful of his soldiers. Captain Jeorge immediately leapt to his feet, ordering his soldiers to arrest them, but Gidie stood in the way. "I would advise against that. We are all here under a banner of peace. Violate that, and I don't doubt your kingdom will lose a great deal of good will." Alpida nodded, her hand drifting to the hilt of her sword. A long, tense minute passed before Amvion ordered the men to stand down. "Now, Lady Valerie, you have yet to say much. I believe we know Lord Amvion's stance, and Shadow Guard Alpida's, but what do you have to say on the ideas presented today?"
OOC: Try to make your response comprehensive, so we can keep this moving as quickly as possible.

OOC: I might take Amvion back at some point, but it'd probably be best if you kept him for now, at least for the duration of the meeting.
IC: Lady Valerie rises from her chair upon being named, having previously remained seated while the others argued amongst themselves. "Both proposals we have heard today have some merit. As Lord Amvion has said," - she gives the Dragon Knight leader a courteous nod at this point - "the Kaspik Wardens have failed comprehensively to fulfill their obligations under the treaty, proving unable to prevent the Bear Knights from occupying the old fortress, and quite incapable of ejecting the garrison that the late King Darthraxx stationed there."
Valerie moves across the room at a sedate pace, casting an appraising eye over the Forest Band representatives as she goes, before assuming a dominating postion on the other side of the room and turning back to face her felllow dignitaries. "However, with that said, I believe the Wardens' purpose was a good one. Although we have thusfar been able to avoid quarelling over the governance of the Great Forest, such a conflict is surely inevatable if partisan forces are allowed to move freely within it. As such - if the Forest Band are willing to accept the responsibility - it seems prudent that the duties of the Wardens should be vested in them. The men of the Greenbark Group have always proved effective in the past, fighting valiantly to protect our shores from the Xain incursion. If they are willing to accept Master Gidie's proposal, and the obvious limitations it would place on their liberty to interfere with matters in the Three Kingdoms, I see no reason why we cannot trust the Forestmen to fill the gap left by the Kaspik Wardens."

Lord Amvion sighs. "I must say, I am rather disappointed in Lord Urbien. Not only did he decline to attend this meeting himself, he failed to inform his representative of the agreement we had reached. Lady Valerie, Lord Urbien has agreed to lend the support of the Lion Knights to my proposal." He produces a piece of paper certifying such and marked with Lord Urbien's seal. "I suggest that we adjourn this meeting and reconvene once you have all had time to properly consider your positions." He glares at Gidie and Harfor. "Lady Valerie, do keep in mind that once we have consolidated our strength in the Forest, we will be in a much better position to help you retrieve your dear nephew from the Abandoned Fortress."
With that, the attendees disperse, Harfor and Gidie leaving quickly with the other Forest Band representatives. As Alpida leaves, Lord Amvion calls out to her. "Convey my deepest regrets to your Black Knight that he could not be in attendance today. I look forward to meeting him at the next gathering." Alpida does not reply.

If Lady Valerie is angered by her public embarassment, she does not show it, watching Amvion with an expression of polite surprise as he explains the situation. She does not respond directly to Amvion's second comment, merely nodding in farewell and making her way out of the meeting room.

Lady Valerie clmabers slowly down from her carriage and potters unhurriedly towards Lord Urbien, greeting him perfectly pleasantly, though her voice is edged with a slight tint of annoyance, "Ah, Lord Urbien. Have you any news from the Abandoned Fortress?"

"Yes, a letter arrived before dawn with some urgency. It appears there was an incident. Your nephew was injured, sadly, but Lord Cyril has ensured he will be alright. He has a plan in place and stands ready to take control, so long as we hold up our end of the bargain."

"There seem to have been quite a few letters circulating recently," comments Lady Valerie, eyes ever so slightly narrowed. Stepping slightly closer to Urbien, she lowers her voice, ensuring that no guardsmen or servants can overhear their discussion. "When do we anticipate Lord Cyril taking power?"
