With the dawn of the new day, Lord Urbien is greeted by a messenger from the Dragon Kingdom. After reading the letter, he sends for Lady Valerie to meet him in his study.
OOC: LordTigress You're playing Valerie too, so read up on her if you haven't.

OOC: Got it.
Lady Valerie enters Lord Urbien's study. Arching a fine eyebrow, she leans forward on her cane as she inquires, "You requested my presence?"

"Yes. Thank you for your . . . expedience." He hands her a letter. "This just arrived from the Dragon Kingdom."
Reading it quickly, she sees it is an invitation to join Lord Amvion of the Dragon Kingdom at a summit between the three Southern Kingdoms at the earliest possible opportunity. Lord Amvion wishes to discuss the matter of the Ruins of the Pine Forest and the issue of the Treaty of Kasp.

Urbien sighs. "I don't like the idea of the Dragons holding that fortress. With it, they have power over the Great Forest. But I agree that a thousand-year-old treaty may have outlived its usefulness. If you're willing, I'd like to send you to this summit. Gather what information you can about Amvion's plans and find out what he's willing to do to get what he wants. But don't vote or sign anything until we've discussed the matter. And in the meantime, we need to get to work on selecting a king. If Amvion is going to hold this fortress, we need strong leadership to face him if necessary."

"Very well." She gazes at the letter thoughtfully. "How large should my escort be?"

Urbien thinks for a moment. "I'll supplement your guard with a few additional men. I don't expect Lord Amvion will try anything too underhanded, but we had best prepare in case he does."

"Good idea. I suppose I'll get the servants to pack my things, then."

As Valerie leaves, Urbien sets to work drafting the letter. Not long after he finishes, a servant knocks at the door. After listening to what he has to say, Urbien leaves his office and heads down to the gates, where he is met by a dark-haired man in silver robes. Bowing with a flourish, the man introduces himself. "Lord Eldarion Cyril, of Sylvania. I believe we have much to discuss."
OOC: Shamrock I'm just going to give you a quick recap post so you can understand what's going on. I'll let you take the first action.
So, a day or two ago, Lord Urbien called in Lady Valerie to discuss a letter he had received from Lord Amvion. It seemed Amvion was announcing a summit to discuss the future of the Ruins and the Treaty of Kasp. Lord Urbien asked Valerie to represent the Lion Knights at the summit, and she agreed. In a few days, she will be heading there with the members of her bodyguard that remain in the castle and a few others selected by Lord Urbien. Later that day, a foreign lord named Eldarion Cyril arrived at the castle. Lady Valerie vaguely remembers him as having been a member of the Zweihander contingent that arrived shortly before the Xain Invasion. However, she has had little opportunity to talk to him because he has been cloistered with Lord Urbien in discussions of some sort.

OOC: OK. Thanks.
IC: Not wanting to make her interest in Lord Cyril's business with Lord Urbien too obvious, Lady Valerie returns to her quarters and busies herself with preparations for the summit and reading up on the Treaty of Kasp. Meanwhile, she sends one of her maids to discreetly watch the door to Lord Urbien's office and observe any comings-and-goings.

OOC: No problem.
IC: Reading about the Treaty of Kasp, Valerie learns that it was written a thousand years ago to end the war of the Southern Kingdoms against the Stag Kingdom and to prevent any new power rising in the Great Forest. It established an organization called the Kaspik Wardens to watch over the Great Forest and prevent armies and kingdoms from being established there and to protect the people living there from its dangers. To maintain the peace, the three Southern Kingdoms were barred from ever establishing any presence in the Great Forest, a condition to be enforced by the Kaspik Wardens and by one another. Is there any specific information she would like to look for?
After a long time, the maid sees two messengers enter the room and leave shortly afterwards.
