"Thank you." The two get to their feet, Daniel picking up the list and giving a slight bow, and leave the room. As they walk down the corridor, Valerie says, "You'll want to take your personal manservant, of course; I'll ask my handmaidens if they have encountered any trustworthy servants here you could take to fill up the other spaces."
Daniel, who appears slightly annoyed that his aunt is making arrangements for the servants before they discuss the soldiers, returns, "Yes, okay, that sounds fine. I think I've met most of the knights Lord Urbien suggested, so I'll probably take all but one or two of them-"
"Very well, Daniel," replies Valerie with a faint hint of resigned exasperation. "I'll look over Urbien's list before supper. Why don't you try and recruit some of the men you train with in the yard to fill up a few extra spaces? The men I don't dissapprove of, that is."
"Yes, Aunt Valerie, thank you," her nephew sighs, handing her the list after double-checking how spaces he needs to fill.
"And make sure you leave a couple of spaces empty, young man - I may find some men it would be prudent to take. I wonder if we could persuade Sir Lucas to go..."
Nodding, Daniel uses his aunt's deliberations as an opportunity to escape and head off.
Lady Valerie returns to her room straight away. Once there, she sits down at her with the list and another piece of parchment, as well as a book of all the old families of the Lion Kingdom. Carefully reading down Urbien's list, she makes use of her long memory and the book to check for any family connections or old alliances that any of the recommended knights might have, either with her family or with Urbien's. Any connected with her family, and those with no connections with either, are moved over onto Valerie's list; any with connections to Urbien are put on a separate list.

Many of those on the list appear to be the more experienced knights, those who served under Arthurian and Demiu. Some of those are related to Urbien through his relation to Arthurian.
Liam nods, a little nervous but trying to hide it.
He is led to the courtyard, where he finds an injured, unconscious man and a wingless griffin, who is nudging the man. "They came to the gate," explains a soldier, "So I let 'em in. I think they're 'urt."

Jednook the griffin breaks off from trying to rouse his master, to peck at the satchel again.
Goatie, meanwhile, is still.
Liam shakes his head. "Oh no no no, much worse than I had bargained on." He appears agitated and very nervous. He drops to his knees next to the man, and starts examining him for wounds, muttering to himself.
OOC: Is Jednook injured, and what exactly are Goatie's injuries?

Jednook succeeds in tearing what looks like a rolled-up scroll from his master's satchel. He drops it on Goatie's chest, and starts spitting like there is a nasty taste in his mouth.
The scroll gives off a strong, damp odour, like mould. This seems to rouse Goatie. His eyes snap open, filled with fear. With a yell he knocks the scroll away from him. 'The Monsters! They are here!'
OOC: Jednook is lame with a limp (just a sprain I guess) and Goatie has a broken right arm and is basically traumatized after what happened to him.

Liam quickly tries to calm the agitated man back down, nodding his thanks to Jednook for rousing him. "Now, quiet down there. Quiet down." He pushes the scroll to the side. "Can you tell me where it hurts?"
OOC: Thanks! Just out of curiosity, what's with the scroll?

Goatie, panting, calms down but still stares at the scroll which now lies at Jednook's front talons. He touches his right arm, indicating it is broken. 'They did this.'
OOC: It's to do with what happened in the labyrinth under the Abandoned Fortress. Goatie will reveal the story eventually

Liam decides the scroll is causing problems, and quickly tucks it back into the satchel, all business. He examines the arm more carefully, and then quickly grabs a nearby broom and hands it to the servant who brought him down. "Break this. I needs sticks for a brace."

OOC: Got it!
Jednook lies gingerly on top of the satchel to guard it, all the while staring anxiously at his master.
Goatie is silent, biting his lip as he waits for Liam to re-insert his (LEGO) arm.

The servant hesitantly breaks the broom, after glancing around and assuring himself there were no serviceable sticks nearby. Liam whips off his belt and uses it to brace up the arm. "Herbs....we need herbs." He motions for them to stay put, and rushes off to find his bag.

Goatie, by now, has calmed down, sufficiently enough to not look as traumatized, and to survey Liam's handiwork. ''Bodge job,'' he observes, looking at the brace, ''but resourceful.''
Jednook tips his head and squawks in acknowledgement.
