I second this! Yeah, I don't really like them either. I have started to grow on all of them lately, except- Jay. I don't like that he looks like a 3 year old all of a sudden....
Yeah, Jay isn't good. The one that jars me the most is Kai, since his small role in SoG didn't link the character with the appearance for me.
I think their not being the original designs is good reason enough, as it was quite discombobulating to a number of viewers, but I also don't like the facts that Nya looks more like a nondescript female action hero and that Lloyd's eyes are green (by default). The latter is especially odd since the vast majority of characters have black eyes--and before you say "That's no reason" and "The eyes are so that he stands out," yes, he does stand out, but not in a good way. The effect is more one of shock and confusion than the intended "wow, that's unique and cool." Plus, perhaps more objectively, that particular shade of green doesn't go too well with the traditional minifigure yellow skin tone.
Oh, and Kai's new hair is annoyingly and laughably exaggerated.
No, them not being the original designs is not good reason enough, because it shows you're just looking at these designs with a nostalgic blindfold. If they were the original designs, you probably wouldn't hate them so much because they were the designs you had gotten used to ever since 2011-2012. Also, I actually grew to like the green eyes, so don't treat your opinion as objective fact.
I agree with the last statement, though.
Replace "nostalgic blindfold" with "founded expectations" and you've got it right. And yes--if they were the original designs, there would obviously not be a debate at all. Having used those designs for seven years, it was a mistake to change them because viewers now have to associate the same beloved character with a new and confusing design. Some, like me, are bound not to enjoy having to do that, nor are they going to actually like the new designs. One could ask "Eh, why not change 'em?" to which I would respond "Why bother?" Fans of the show were surprised and confused by the new designs, and I can't imagine fans of the movie got on much better since the show voices are completely different from the movie ones, thus throwing off any sort of contrived continuity from the movie that the designs might have established.
You'll note that I said "perhaps more objectively": I am aware that my opinion on the new Lloyd's green eyes is not objective fact, nor did I present it that way. I merely thought that the contrast between green and yellow wasn't very good and assumed--incorrectly, it would seem--that most people would share my opinion because simple color combinations are easier to agree on than full-on character designs

Woah! I'm sorry, but saying Jay looks like a 3 year old is overly exaggerated. I know getting freckles and curly hair might be odd to some people, but that's just taking it too far.

I admit I could have worded that better, but it bothers me that you seem to think everyone in the fanbase agrees with what you wrote. There are actually many longtime fans who like the movie designs, including me. You also have to remember that we do not make up the entirety of the fanbase. Even if the movie didn't do that well, it still attracted plenty of fans to Ninjago, mostly kids. And the point you make about those new fans getting confused clearly isn't a problem, since Ninjago has so far been one of the most successful themes of this year.
Sorry if that sounded like a rant, but you're opinion is not always the consensus. I hope we can end things here, because this is just a waste of time.

Eh. I don't think everyone agrees with me, since you obviously don't, and I'm aware of plenty of others (a majority, I think) who don't share my views. Luckily, I don't care enough to defend myself further. =P
So, as it turns out, the Borg Tower rumour was fake, just like the Fire Temple. *Sigh* The Ice Temple will turn out to be fake too, won't it?
That's a shame, although given the logistics of a Borg Tower set I can't say I'm overly surprised. I can't speak for the legitimacy of the Ice Temple, but since the only corresponding TV series location is that temple thing in the Frozen Wasteland, I highly doubt it will become a set given the fact that it was given only a very minimal amount of screen time in the pilots.

Okay, I admit I completely exaggerated it. How does a 6 year old sound?
I just saw some leaks, and I noticed the venomari general (Acidicus) might be getting a new figure! So not only two serpents are coming back! Of course, what I saw could have been fake. I also saw the new golden Lloyd, and I'm disappointed he has green eyes.. On top of that, I also saw Nya is potentially getting some crazy new hairstyle!

I've got good news, everyone! Pictures of the new sets have finally been leaked after we've waited for 8 years!
The most notable set is the Monestary, because it looks amazing. The original set was decent, but this not only has a bigger and more complete build, but it looks beautiful, and comes with all of the ninja and Master Wu. My only problem is that the front and back are disconnected, but that's really a small thing. As for the rest of the sets, the Earth Driller also looks better than the original, although it was a good set, not to mention it has a giant stone warrior and more minifigures. The Storm Fighter also seems to be an improvement, but a little weird from this view. I'm not impressed with the Samurai Mech so far, since it looks so much smaller than the original and doesn't look as good. I can't make out any details on the Golden Dragon, so I won't judge it. The Ultra Dragon hasn't been leaked yet, but surely will eventually.
As it turns out, those leaked spinner pieces weren't fake after all! Also, the new spinners seem to focus on being customisable, just like the old spinners from 2011-2012. That'll attract people who thought the old spinners were the best because of that aspect. Another interesting thing is that the Golden Weapons are back, and actually look more accurate to the TV show. Some of the sets also have mysterious small structures. So does any of this tie into the story, and if so, how? Only time will tell.
