And, inevitably, now that I look more closely at it, I realize the serpent's too big. And possibly too green. Anyone know what color it's supposed to be?
I just googled it, and there doesn't appear to be an official color. However, many of the depictions where the wheel and snake aren't just one solid color show the snake as golden.
Ah, thanks! Though I'm not sure the right parts exist in gold...

That is awesome! The snake is shown as red on the inside front cover of the books. Also, I love the Jurassic Park dino head on the snake.
Danke! ...Red and not gold? Oh dear. I'll need to rethink the whole color scheme. And was that head first used for Jurassic Park? I got it from a mini-dino set in '03, but I'm not sure if that's the first place it appeared....

Red is the way it's pictured in the books, yes.
All I know is my friend gave me one and told me it was from an old JP set.
I'm about halfway through Book 5 now. Something extremely awkward that I'm not allowed to speak of here happened, but other than that, it's getting quite good.

I am considering starting this series as my library has the majority of the books and our library system most likely has the rest. Yes, I will read through them. It will take a long time, but I will. I read a 400+ page book (The Sword in the Stars, actually quite a decent book) in one night.
My question is this: on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the violence, crudity/suggestive scenes, and language of the series? I could most likely handle violence, but I don't like crudity and can't stand excessive language.

{JAMMERS! spoilers (sort of) for book 5} But it said it was flying. And there were hooded people looking around on it. I honestly thought it sounded A LOT like the Nazgul riding the Fell Beasts.

The books are very slow-paced, though. They generally take longer to read than other books of the same length.
I'm just speaking from the first 5 books, but here's my rating. The violence is hard to rate. It's not super bad, and you said you could probably handle it, so I'll just leave it at that. The language is not bad at all. Most of the curse words they use are not curse word IRL. Except they do use one that is a curse word in England. And as far as suggestive scenes, it gets pretty bad. The "something extremely awkward that I'm not allowed to speak of here" that I mentioned in a recent post was in that category.

To add to your point about suggestive scenes, only Book 5 is really bad, a even then it is only very obvious allusions to event, not actually describing it. TBH, Book 5 doesn't even feel like a Wheel of Time book, so if you want to skip it I'll give you a synopsis of the important bits. After Book 5 there's nothing that I recall.

Oh, wow, I am so glad about that. I've been happy that the "suggestive" scenes have never really been more than just that, suggestive. Not descriptive. But they've been getting more and more suggestive as the series has gone on, and it's good to hear that they fade away after Fires of Heaven.

Yeah, I would have given up if I hadn't read most of the books after it before I read it
