Because it could prevent some under 13s from posting. A lot of the staff have wanted this for a while, some did not until recently. Personally, I've wanted this since I was put on the staff, guest posting isn't really the issue but it's the fact we can't really discuss the problems with their posts with them.

Are you sure that you just banned from posting rather than banning them altogether? I ask because when I came here just now I was asked to log in before it would let me come to the site.
It is a good idea to let them view the site, but the banning from posting is probably for the best. Most ProBoards sites with any sort of moderation are like that.
