The atomic bomb was an effective tool used at an ideal time to end a war as quickly as possible, cause as few Allied deaths as possible, and cause as few enemy deaths as possible, as well as establish a position as foremost super-power in the world. All nice people ought to be grateful or at least understanding of the wisdom and sense behind the deployment of the atomic bombs.
I contest that; Japan surrendered because the Soviet Union entered the war, not because the bomb was dropped. The United States also gave Japan no time at all to even process what had happened, much less begin the process of surrender, when they dropped the second bomb. Compound this with the fact that Japan had been denied any diplomatic negotiation for days before and after the bombs' uses and what you get is the idea that America was trying to show off their power by destroying two heavily-populated civilian targets and poisoning the land for decades to come.
Which is sick.
Yes, it wasn't about Japan or the war it was about showing of to the Soviet Union.
I doubt. They had already finished it; France didn't need to build a wall along Belgium.
Well yes they did, it was downfall. Germany simply went through belgium and into France. Now if the line in belgium was finished Germany couldn't get through and would either have to go throught Switzerland or send Mussolini and France would have won because the Italians were horrible in combat.
Exactly. They didn't consider that...
Even though it happened last time.

People have a bad habit of forgetting past mistakes. And after leaving the Ardennes under protected in 1940, the allies did the same thing again in 1944.
Out of curiosity, why do you then have the Iron Cross as your avatar and in your signature?
'tis the Balkenkreuz (though I do have an Iron Cross in my signature as well). I'm a fan of Germany and the German military during the World Wars. While for obvious reasons I abhor many of their actions, there were just as many humane and heroic Germans as Allied soldiers during the war.
And the irony is that my favorite country during the war was Poland.

How did they not figure that out?
I mean, it helped that different powers were in control at the time, but... yeah. It seems obvious.

Japan was ready to surrender only because they saw Manchuria invaded by the Soviets.
If I was Truman I'd still drop the bomb because it ended the war quickly, and allowed the least amount of gain by the Soviets in Asia.
It was wrong to drop the bomb it harmed so many people and what was it all for?
I think we may need an ethics chatroom on that front.
Turman probably didn't know Japan would surrender that easily. They're famed for literally fighting too the last man,so why would this be any different? Plus,it was probably to show off to the Soviets as well.

Yes, but Truman would have known they tried to surrender and he dropped the bomb on them anyway.

In retrospect it quelled some of the spread of communism in Asia, which may or may not have ended more lives over a period of time.
The Japanese weren't communists, and it certainly didn't save any innocent civilians lives those people had nothing to do with the war they were just trying to live their lives.
