I used to LOVE history at school but now I don't like it as much. Anyone want to talk about the Ancient Greeks or Ancient Romans?
Do you live in the UK, cos that's exactly what you learn about on the Classical Civilisation course? Alright, why did the Spartans strategy suck so much?
I figured out I don't want to talk about history now.
Where are you from? I don't like the A bomb either, No nice person would.
The atomic bomb was an effective tool used at an ideal time to end a war as quickly as possible, cause as few Allied deaths as possible, and cause as few enemy deaths as possible, as well as establish a position as foremost super-power in the world. All nice people ought to be grateful or at least understanding of the wisdom and sense behind the deployment of the atomic bombs.
To some degree I agree with your rationale, but TBH they could have just dropped one somewhere uninhabited
Also I saw somewhere that Japan was readying to surrender and the Allies knew that. Is that actually correct?
Old sci-fi is the best sci-fi! v this is not old sci-fi Maxim 3: An ordnance technician at a dead run outranks everybody. Maxim 24: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a big gun.
"“Even by the twenty-second century, no way had yet been discovered of keeping elderly and conservative scientists from occupying crucial administrative positions. Indeed, it was doubted if the problem ever would be solved.” ^That, on the other hand, is old sci-fi.

Japan was ready to surrender only because they saw Manchuria invaded by the Soviets.
If I was Truman I'd still drop the bomb because it ended the war quickly, and allowed the least amount of gain by the Soviets in Asia.
By the grace my God has invested into me, I shall lead and follow onto glory.
Mmm... that was a short fight. I liked the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 and the Battle of Wizna from 7-10 September 1939.
If France had finished the Maginot line they would have stopped Germany and changed the war.
I doubt. They had already finished it; France didn't need to build a wall along Belgium.

Don't even get me started on the bomb. My great-great grandfather was hit by it.

I'm American, but my mother is from Japan.

I contest that; Japan surrendered because the Soviet Union entered the war, not because the bomb was dropped. The United States also gave Japan no time at all to even process what had happened, much less begin the process of surrender, when they dropped the second bomb. Compound this with the fact that Japan had been denied any diplomatic negotiation for days before and after the bombs' uses and what you get is the idea that America was trying to show off their power by destroying two heavily-populated civilian targets and poisoning the land for decades to come.
Which is sick.

Totally correct, Japan believed their Emperor was a god and if he was executed they would not stand for it. They tried to surrender but the US was insistent on unconditional . If they signed that their Emperor might be executed. Truman dropped the bomb partly to scare the soviets and after this Japan surrendered unconditionally to the US but after all of this they let Japan keep their emperor. The bomb is like the death star, do you like the death star?

Well yes they did, it was downfall. Germany simply went through belgium and into France. Now if the line in belgium was finished Germany couldn't get through and would either have to go throught Switzerland or send Mussolini and France would have won because the Italians were horrible in combat.

Exacltly. I don't understand anyone trying to defend such a horror.

USA almost obviously did not consider the size of the side effects. While it was necessary to claim that many lives, I don't believe such measures were needed. Long after the war, still now, People are physically suffering from the effects of the bomb
Yes, they didn't know about radiation sickness yet.

Yes, Japan wanted to surrender but it was ignored becuase the US wanted to try out their new weapon.
