There were so many awesome decoy operations during the war...
But I think Operation Habbakuk to be the most amazing Allied project next to the atomic bomb. Check it out.
That was cool though it never worked out. My friend did a project on it last year. And the Atom Bomb is actually pretty debated whether they should've been used.
Don't even get me started on the bomb. My great-great grandfather was hit by it.

*I google it*
Oh, right, the giant ice Aircraft Carrier. Pykrete, technically, I see. I read about it once but forgot most of the details. It's an amazing idea, but doesn't sound terribly practical.
Yeah, Pykrete. Pyke was an incredible man who met a terrible end. The ship wasn't wholly practical... but it was more practical than it seems.

Have you read Panzer leader, by General Heinz Guderian, the German general who lead the tanks that smashed through the Allied right flank during the Battle of France, and pushed them back to Dunkirk?
Panzer Commander by Colonel Hans von Luck is in a similar vein; he commanded the 21st Panzer Division and, I believe, served in the 7th Panzer Division in France.

WWII history is one of my favorite periods of history to learn about as well.
A few months ago I found the US Army in WWII series in my college Library, and read some of it. The massive amount of detail was a bit overwhelming, but that's what makes it a fascinating series.
Dang... that's a great find.
I suppose I should be more clear -- I intend to study military history in college and receive my doctorate based on WWII research.

Nobody ever remembers the maths scholars, even tho most wars' winners can be traced back to the crypto people...
Old sci-fi is the best sci-fi! v this is not old sci-fi Maxim 3: An ordnance technician at a dead run outranks everybody. Maxim 24: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from a big gun.
"“Even by the twenty-second century, no way had yet been discovered of keeping elderly and conservative scientists from occupying crucial administrative positions. Indeed, it was doubted if the problem ever would be solved.” ^That, on the other hand, is old sci-fi.

The atomic bomb was an effective tool used at an ideal time to end a war as quickly as possible, cause as few Allied deaths as possible, and cause as few enemy deaths as possible, as well as establish a position as foremost super-power in the world. All nice people ought to be grateful or at least understanding of the wisdom and sense behind the deployment of the atomic bombs.

1. There is no wisdom behind it, it was created for one reason, to kill. 2. Japan would have surrendered if America would give them better terms, In Japan's view they considered their Emperor a god, they thought that America might execute him so they wouldn't surrender but America was insistent on unconditional surrender. Truman didn't have to use it, he wanted also to scare Stalin with it by showing its power. Now I am not saying Japan was right, they committed some of the worst attrocities in the war but the A-bomb was not needed and still isn't. And by the way the number of American lives that were saved went from thousnds to half a million through the decades.

USA almost obviously did not consider the size of the side effects. While it was necessary to claim that many lives, I don't believe such measures were needed. Long after the war, still now, People are physically suffering from the effects of the bomb
